CHANNEL 1 ATLANTA – ATLANTA GA
UPDATED: SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 30TH 2012 @ 2:00 AM ET
There is a “Slight Risk” for Severe Thunderstorms across Atlanta and the Southeast over the next few days as a low pressure system develops off coast of Texas today and moves into and across the Southeast US next 48 hours. A strong jet stream will also dig into the Southeast next 24 hours.
For today (Sunday), the best chance for Severe will be across MS, LA, SW AL. On Monday this all shifts NE and will include most of western GA, and could linger into early Tuesday for eastern GA.
The best chance for Severe Weather in the Atlanta metro area right now appears to be Monday evening into early Tuesday. Damaging Winds appear to be the MAIN THREAT with this system at this time. However, if we get some sunlight late Monday, and this system really comes together as it’s forecast to do so my the very latest computer models just in to Storm Watch America this morning, and the Storm Prediction Centers forecast hold true, we could see s few Tornadoes across our area as well.
This appears to be similar but slightly stronger than the storm forecasted a few weeks ago, where we were under a Tornado Watch in GA and nothing happened. That is very rare!
